Born on the planet Allanteen Six along the Corellian Run hyperspace route, Tren DeMaal knew he was destined to become a pilot. From early childhood, when his parents took him to visit the planetary shipyards, Tren wanted to fly in space. Maybe it was the Duros blood in him, coursing like a wild bantha, maybe it was always being at the family vehicle service facility, but whichever it was, Tren always sought to be behind the wheel of a vehicle and ultimately dreams of having his own spaceship.

The DeMaal family established itself by owning and operating the Blue Crescent Service and Repairs vehicle facility just outside the spaceport on Allanteen Six. The human society had accepted the Duros family because of the excellent work that the shop provided to its customers. Tren’s father, Levatt DeMaal, a skilled technician and decent pilot as well, oversaw everything at the Blue Crescent. And, his wife, Pleness, was able to stay at home and raise their four children; Rumun, Winrel, Tren, and Dayliss. This all changed when Pleness was diagnosed with an incurable disease that gave her only a few months to live.

The family of Duros gathered together to support and comfort Pleness, but true to the doctor’s word, she passed away four months later in 25 BBY. Her death created a rift in the family and Rumun was the first to act out. He decided that he did not want to remain on Allanteen Six for his lifetime, like Levatt was doing, but instead wanted to explore and travel the galaxy. So, a month after Pleness’ passing, Rumun packed up his possessions and left home for the stars.

Afterwards, an uneasy peace settled in, and work returned to normal. The remaining three children went to work with Levatt and learned the family trade. As the next few years passed, things never really improved. Father was a different man, broken in many ways. All the children could sense it, but none said anything about it. Then in 22 BBY, war erupted in the galaxy and things changed; changed rapidly.

Levatt became an ardent support of Chancellor Palpatine and the Republic. He felt the secession of the C.I.S. planets was treasonous and Palpatine was justified in calling upon the Jedi and a clone army to squash this defiance. Levatt also began to change personally. He became embittered and mean in many ways. He was no longer the tolerant and accepting father, now he criticized the family at every turn. Winrel, Tren’s twin brother, felt Levatt was wrong about the war and argued with him endlessly. Finally, after a few months, Winrel packed up his belongings and booked passage to the C.I.S. region of space to join their cause. This only infuriated Levatt more, and he became more belligerent.

The final event that broke Levatt was Allanteen Six’s decision to secede to the Separatists in the following months. This created a major backlash on the planet and mobs began rioting in the streets against Republic sympathizers’ businesses and households. Levatt was a well known fan of Palpatine and the Republic so his store was a target.

Tren’s worst nightmare happened while he was running errands at the spaceport, picking up supplies and such. When he returned to the Blue Crescent, he found the building in flames. Surrounded by firefighting droids and law enforcers he learned that his family was assumed to be inside and had perished in the fire. Stunned, and yet afraid for his own life, Tren raced back to his home and ransacked the family’s possessions and accounts to gather enough funds to travel off planet quickly. Allenteen Six had nothing to offer him anymore.

But, when he reached the spaceport he learned that no vessels were going to Republic space. So, Tren chased down a human pilot friend, Ridar Naryb, who routinely had work done at the Blue Crescent. Ridar was a guy who was always looking to make a fast credit and he liked young Tren. Tren asked Ridar if he could fly the next cargo haul for him, if he paid him. Ridar thought about it for a bit, then decided to accept Tren’s offer. Tren suspected Ridar knew what Tren was going to do because he did not ask any questions about Tren’s intentions.

The next morning, after sleeping on the street, Tren suited up in his flight suit and boarded the Emerald Zephyr, one of many vessels in the Galactic Prime Shipping fleet. Once Tren departed Allanteen Six, he punched in hyperspace coordinates to the Core worlds, hoping to find safety there. He did not expect to be pulled out of hyperspace by a Republic checkpoint. The communications officer told Tren to stand down and prepare to be boarded. Tren knew the Emerald Zephyr had transponder codes that identified it as an Allanteen Six vessel that was now loyal to the C.I.S. and just prayed the Republic ships would not destroy the vessel outright.

Fortunately for Tren, they only took possession of the vessel as it had small arms munitions and other cargo that would be beneficial to the war effort. Tren pleaded for asylum and was processed through a Republic facility on Coruscant to verify his story. After processing, the Republic officer noted that Tren was a decent pilot and encouraged him to apply for the Republic Navy. With the fighting in the Clone Wars ongoing; good pilots were in high demand.

Realizing that he had nowhere to go and no other job prospects, Tren decided to follow the officer’s suggestion and apply for the Republic Navy. He met with a recruiter, Lieutenant Gilad Pellaeon, and was given many simulator tests to measure his skill. Fortunately for Tren, he passed with high marks. Following this, Tren was sent to basic training and then on to flight school. Upon his graduation he was commissioned as an Ensign in the Republic Navy and was selected to serve as an attaché with the Galactic Senate as a pilot.
